“Often unknown to the conscious mind of a patient, underneath all symptoms and disease is a level of fear state and control. To guide a patient from fear state to the heart triggers a deeply profound and unstoppable level of self-healing. This is freedom.”

Hello, my name is Dr. Neetu Dhiman, ND, and I would like to extend a warm welcome to my office. If a friend or loved one has referred you to me, I am confident they have shared with you the deep passion and purpose that drive my practice. I am driven by helping individuals and families achieve health levels rarely seen in their lifetime. In this current age of data and information overload, there is more confusion and controversy over healthcare than ever before. In my practice, you are the focus of attention, not paperwork, covered visits, protocols, or other forms of bureaucracy. I am an independent practitioner, not under the umbrella coverage of MSP;  I am also not part of the one-size-fits-all treatments that are correct for many and yet incorrect or incomplete for others. At this point, I would like to share a bit about myself so you can understand what drives my passion for helping people.

Since the age of two, I have been diagnosed with life-threatening Asthma and Anaphylaxis. Born to immigrant parents from Punjab, India, almost every food in our cultural traditions triggered my condition. Beans, Peas, Nuts, and Lentils, along with animals, chemicals, and smoke. My sickness dominated my early years as well as emprisoning my entire family. Nights in hospitals, the worried look on my parents’ faces, the whispered, hush-hush conversations that I knew were about me and my lack of health.

I was the ‘sick’ girl. That was my identity. While in the hospital, one of my earliest memories include being zipped in an oxygen tent to sleep. I was terrified, and I felt like some alien or outsider that needed to be isolated from others. I felt so strange and alone. Another deciding factor was growing up in a school system where I was the only visible minority in my class. I’m sure these two themes of my early life played a pivotal role in my becoming a Naturopath. I now cherish the freedom of being a different kind of doctor. As a Naturopath, I am not limited to using cookie cutter or one size fits all protocols of therapeutic modalities and treatment. Alternatively, upon taking a detailed initial history, I am able to determine the correct approach for every one of my patients. Sickness and disease have a cruel habit of making one feel different and isolated, and take one out of the world they once knew. I have experienced this personally and relate to every one of my patients from this unique vantage point. As a Practitioner, I have a dual perspective as both doctor and patient.  There is no ivory tower of academics spoken here. I have lived the lifestyle of sickness, which is why I became a doctor with a decidedly different attitude that does not agree with being told what can not be done.

I know this journey as well as people know the backs of their hands. I have lived this and have walked in your footsteps. I will never accept a diagnosis, genetics, or whatever limitation you experience at face value. I always ask my patients, “Does this naming, classification, diagnosis, or limitation help you reach your goals?” I focus on resolving the problem at its core level, rather than merely treating or managing its symptoms. I care for human beings with illnesses, not the illnesses themselves. You will not find Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS) in room 3 at my office. However, there is a human-being in room 3 who happens to be afflicted with LGS. My depth of life experiences is a dance of duality: as an extremely sick child to an empowered adult; as a Patient to Practitioner; as a Student to Small Business Owner; as a Visible Minority to Understanding the depth of human struggle.  The rich depth to each life lesson has allowed me to enjoy caring for people from all walks of life. Health connects us all to each other as health has no colour. I especially enjoy helping people get a second chance at life, like I did. Just because another doctor proclaimed there is no help for you, I disagree. They may have given up on you, but I will not. I will not accept a case that I do not honestly feel I can help with. It would be my honour and privilege to guide you through the turbulent, troubled waters that you find yourself in. Remember the symptom is an invitation to go deeper to excavate the root; at the root you will unleash the keys to living a life full of vitality, peace and truth as our birthright.
